This month Colorado’s Commissioner of Agriculture, Kate Greenberg, and Governor of Colorado, Jared Polis, made a visit to Grains from the Plains, located in Hugo, Colorado. The Poss family have been longtime Colorado Grain Chain members, raising a family actively involved in Colorado’s local grain community.

The Poss family welcomed Greenberg and Polis along with an intimate crowd, including local businesses and community members, while sharing the value of the Colorado Grain Chain.

“Right before the governor came, we had hail and rain!” explains Laura of Grains from the Plains.

Although the farmers market tent did not survive the hail, and the fields were a muddy mayhem, the skies cleared by the time Polis arrived. It was just in time for a local baker to serve delicious treats made with wheat from the Poss’ fields.

“That’s Colorado for you,” says Laura.

Although the Poss’ may have concerns for their Turkey Red and the spout of hail, Grains from the Plains sure knows how to bounce back and balance, as experienced farmers in Colorado’s sometimes harsh, but loving conditions.
